Huntsville OPP Detachment Staff-Sgt. JP Graham says collaborations between police officers and services clubs in the area are part of a new approach to police services here.

Graham shared a bit about his respect for services clubs and the work they do for at-risk and low-income residents as well as others in need of support during his talk with the Rotary Club of Huntsville-Lake of Bays. The club invited Graham to speak on its monthly theme, Peace and Conflict Resolution, in February.

He said the police force is often the first, if not only, point of contact for vulnerable residents, such as isolated seniors, and it makes sense that the police would connect them with services, such as Rotary, that can help them.

He added that this shift in thinking emphasizes that the role of police officers in the community goes beyond issuing speeding and parking tickets.
