Today we welcomed Barbary White from the Junior Achievement Program as our speaker.

We've learned about the benefits of that program. The core pillars of Junior Achievement are: Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Work Readiness.
The Financial Literacy program provides important life skills that fit nicely with promoting youth volunteering.
The program is dependent on local business professionals to deliver the various programs. It is important that the children receive the programs from those who have hands-on experience in the various fields and can relate their life experiences to the class.

The programs offered include:

  • Grade 8 program called Economics for Success;
  • Grade 3, Needs, Jobs and Tools where they discuss the community and how money moves around in the community;
  • Grade 5 program entitled, Our Business World where students learn to run a business which includes deciding on a product, building a business plan, developing a budget, costing materials and labour, and putting together an advertisement to promote their product;
  • there is also Dollars and Sense, a Grade 7 program focusing on money management, smart consumerism, fraud, credit card use, budgeting, and investing.
