A visit to the new Table Community Kitchen in Huntsville tickled club members’ taste buds, while offering some insight into the need for the facility in town.

Heather Berg, CEO of the Table Soup Kitchen Foundation, showed members of the Rotary Club of Huntsville-Lake of Bays around the charity’s 9 Hanes St. complex as part of the club’s evening meeting in March. The site includes a food bank, commercial kitchen and men’s shelter, the latter of which is on the cusp of opening.

Berg said the kitchen would not only serve the shelter, but also act as a teaching kitchen, while offering support to the organization’s twice-weekly soup kitchens using bulk product donated to the food bank.

Rotarian Lynne Doyle, an avid volunteer with the foundation, added that the food bank and commercial kitchen, along with the many volunteers, continue to support the club’s Helping Hungry Students program at Huntsville High School, which offers hot lunches to students referred to the program.

Members then relocated to Family Restaurant for fellowship and dinner following the tour. Rotarian Nick received his official Paul Harris Award and certificate, which was unofficially presented at the Rotary Christmas Party, for his dedication and support of the club through financial and personal contributions.
