It was a great day for literacy!

Our Rotary Club of North Muskoka members, with additional volunteer support from the Rotary Club of Huntsville, Rotary Huntsville Twighlight Club and community members, hosted our second Giant Book Sale on July 30 at Trinity United Church in downtown Huntsville. It was a huge success, if we may say so ourselves!

Why a success?

"People were leaving with bags and boxes of books," says club president Suzanne. "And people were very generous. I'm very happy with the results."

Hundreds of previously enjoyed books in a variety of fiction and nonfiction genres, which were donated by club members, family members, friends, and community members, found new homes with excited and happy shoppers. Club members were excited, too, by the opportunity to take action in their community, the environmental sustainability of the event, and the joy and enthusiasm of community members and visitors of all ages, who hunted through the stacks to find new-to-them treasures.

"I am happy to be supporting liberacy in our community," adds Suzanne.

The event raised more than $2,100. Funds raised will help support our club's longstanding commitment to the Huntsville Public Library TD Summer Reading Club, which encourages tots, children, teens, and adults to explore and grow their love of literacy. It's an initiative close to our hearts: not only is our club filled with booklovers, but Basic Education and Literacy is also one of Rotary International's seven Area of Focus.
