Business Cares and other ways to give

that more than 50 area businesses had committed to the foundation's five-year capital campaign, Business Cares, which asks donors to contribute $5,000 a year for five years. The initiative has helped raise $1.3 million for hospital equipment and other hospital needs not funded by the province.

But Katherine noted there are other ways for community members to give, too, including a new legacy campaign in which donors can make long-term plans for financially supporting the foundation, whether through their estate or other means.

And she added that these initiatives have a greater impact than immediate hospital need -- community support shown through these campaigns and others would likely also help bolster the community's case with the province for the future multimillion-dollar redevelopment of both the Huntsville and Bracebridge hospitals by demonstrating community financial commitment, she said.
