Rotary Club of North Muskoka has continued its dedication to student nutrition by partnering with the volunteers at Trinity United Church in Huntsville.

Club members, who previously helped develop, fund, and financially support the Helping Hungry Students hot lunch program at Huntsville High School, were eager to support innovative food programs to support learner nutrition, as the COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered food delivery models in schools.

And so, the club unanimously agreed to support Trinity United Church's Outreach Committee with a $2,000 contribution toward its high school lunch program in 2021.

Diane Schamehorn, a committee member, shared the committee's thanks for the needed donation.

"Part of our committee's mandate is to help members of our community. This year, we are focusing on the young people," says Diane. "We are doing this two ways: one is to provide a free pantry box at the church, Monday to Thursday in the winter months, where students can come and get what they need, and the second is to provide free lunches to high school students."

At the time of the donation, committee members were providing 20 lunches to students every Wednesday, though the number could increase depending on need.

Committee members meet Wednesday mornings to prepare a nutritious lunch, which includes a choice of 2 sandwiches, carrot and celery sticks, cheese and crackers, granola bars, a drink, and fruit. The lunches are then delivered to the high school.

"Thanks to the Rotary club for generously donating funds to cover the cost of the lunches," adds Diane.
