Rotary Club of North Muskoka members hosted their 2019 Presidential Changeover and Membership Social at the Hub in Huntsville on June 27. The event gave us an opportunity to thank President Steve (right) for his two years of leadership and dedication to both the club and community, and to watch President Cara (left) pick up the baton for the next two years. An evening to remember

Heard an overview of two years' worth of accomplishments from now past-president Steve, including Santa Claus Parade, charitable perogie-making, Helping Hungry Student hot lunch preparation, Huntsville Kids' Bike Rodeo, Christmas Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family, Canada Day Book Sale, fundraising barbecue and polio eradication initiatives.

Organizations we supported with donations of funds raised included One Kids Place, Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions Kids to Summer Camp, Huntsville High School, Table Soup Kitchen Foundation and more. These reflect our club's focus on supporting youth-focused initiatives in our community.

We also heard from Rotarian Jim S., a charter member of our club,  who offered an overview of the club's founding and what Rotary means to him.

Hearing from Jim was particularly moving because Cara, our new president, is his daughter!

And that made Cara's remarks, which included comment on the power of an intergenerational club, all the more meaningful. President Cara also talked about how Rotary connected her with community and provided an outlet for doing good. She noted the importance of fellowship and fun, as well as hands-on projects and regular humantarian activities not only to keep members engaged, but also to be nimble in meeting community needs. Here's to the next two years, President Cara!
