Nothing Can Stop Rotary Perogie Weekend![]() When life throws you lemons, set them gently aside and make perogies instead. Rotary Club of North Muskoka members, with help from volunteers and our fellow Rotarians with the Rotary Club of Huntsville Evening Satellite Club, were determined to continue our annual handmade Ukrainian perogie fundraiser, despite all the roadblocks 2020 has put in the world's path. So, with physical distancing, masks, participant limits and other additional safety measures in place, volunteers assembled more than 100 dozen of the potato-and-cheese-filled dough pockets for sale to a hungry and compassionate public! All the work happened in the Table Soup Kitchen Foundation's commercial kitchen. And a most important thank you to Rotarian Nick and his wife, Vivian, for their tireless and essential leadership in this labour-intensive but fun and fulfilling weekend of Rotary at Work! Rotary Finds a New Way to Meet![]() While the weather held out, Rotary Club of North Muskoka members got creative with our weekly meetings! Welcome, District Governor!Rotary Club of North Muskoka members welcomed Rotary District 7010 Governor Lynne Chant as our guest speaker on Nov. 5! Lynne's inspiring words reminded us that, while the world is quite different these days, a little creativity can go a long way, not only in how we host club meetings, but in how we aspire to serve our community. She was particularly impressed with how our club has embraced digital technology for meetings. We also often host hybrid meetings - some members meet in person with physical distancing and masks as others join in via video conferencing from home - to create a flexible environment that allows people to feel most comfortable as they continue to engage with their club members. And our district governor was also pleased to see that, while the COVID-19 crisis has led to public health and municipal direction to postpone the annual Huntsville Santa Claus Parade until 2021, club members had created a new community engagement initiative called Santa's Light Up the Night to help keep community connected through the festive winter season. And we continue to strive to serve our community in other ways - including a physically distanced perogie making weekend in October so we could offer the delightful potato-and-cheese-stuffed dough pockets as usual to community members and raise funds for club youth service projects - and are always open to new ideas. Have an idea, or do you see an unfulfilled need in the community? Send us an email to let us know! |

We've all been indoors – a lot – these days. So we turned our weekly online meeting on April 23 into an Earth Day recognition event! Club members, instead of attending a meeting, were asked to do something Earth-friendly, whether that meant collecting trash in their area if they felt it safe to do so, heading into the garden for some one-on-one time with nature, or tying their laces for a walk outside. Club members were also asked to snap and share photos of their activities. Rotarian Amber got down to business, safely collecting waste near her home. And it looks like she had an opinion on how much she was able to find. Thanks, Amber! |

It was certainly a topic of interest for our club, which is focused on children and youth in northern Muskoka. Thanks for the enlightening talk, Gary and Mike! |
